Equality Mentoring Project – West Yorkshire
Infrastruct has been working with local authority employees from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans-gender (LGBT) community to act as volunteer mentors and mentees.
The mentoring project provides an independent source of support for participants to assist them in realising their career and personal development goals. It also provides a unique opportunity to discuss LGBT and other equality and diversity issues in the workplace.
There have been 17 mentor/ mentee pairs who were working together until January 2011.
Mentors:
Mentors work in management roles at various levels in the councils taking part: Bradford, Leeds, Kirklees and Wakefield.
Mentees:
Mentees selected their mentor from the set of profiles provided to them. Several mentees have chosen a mentor from a different council than their own.
Funding
The project has been funded by Yorkshire & Humber Improvement & Efficiency Partnership.
