Project: West Yorkshire Equality Mentoring Scheme

I am currently involved in an Equality mentoring project involving five West Yorkshire authorities.  

This has involved recruiting mentors and mentees, providing training on becoming a mentor and mentee and ongoing support to ensure the success of this project.  I have found it exciting, innovative and extremely worthwhile.

The benefits for the participants have been varied from confidence building to learning new skills such as interview techniques and being able to share experiences in a safe environment.

What I have learnt from this project is that effective planning of each stage of the project is essential to ensure its success. I have also learnt that it is the participants on the project that bring energy, drive and commitment, my job is simply to ensure that they have the practical support to be able to do this.
