NHS Bolton commissioned Infrastruct to deliver a series of one-day courses on Integrating Equality into Core Business for its managers from January to March 2011. NHS Bolton have now asked for the project to be extended with further training arranged for June 2011.
Using local health inequality data and key messages from the Marmot review Fair Society, Healthy Lives, the course took a practical look at how the PCT addresses equality in service delivery and identified gaps. Using practical exercises, service managers and commissioners developed their knowledge about practical topics such as collecting equality monitoring data and implementing the Trust’s translation and interpretation policy. They examined the benefits to patient care that arose from changing services to be more inclusive. Participants also scrutinised the equality clauses in provider contracts and the implications of considering equality for value for money and QIPP outcomes (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention).
The course was presented in the context of the changing NHS landscape, and considered strategies for integrating equality into the move to GP Commissioning and absorption of provider services into the acute Trust.
After completion of the courses, attendees were asked to complete a short evaluation questionnaire. Twenty six attendees responded to this evaluation questionnaire.
